Reviews and Ratings

Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

The 'Gran Selezione' Chianti Classico is only made during the very best vintages by the oldest family run producers of wine in Italy. Barone Ricasoli is now operated by the 32nd generation of Ricasolis - 32nd Barone Francesco Ricasoli. He is noble descendant of 2nd Barone Bettino Ricasoli, Italy's 2nd Prime Minister and the creator of the modern recipe for Chianti wine. Aside from its noble history, this wine is produced from vineyards in Gaiole, one the best areas for Chianti Classico in Tuscany. The nose is is pronounced and shows a complex bouquet of aromas including: floral, spice, dried cherry, leather, and earthy underbrush. The palate shows concentrated flavours of cherry, plum, savoury herbs, smoked meat, leather, eucalyptus and sweet spice. The texture is chewy but well balanced with high mouthwatering acidity and a long minted herb finish. This wine could be enjoyed now after an hour of decanting but the level of tannins and acidity gives it good potential for ageing up to 2020. Tasted at the Vancouver International Wine Fair 2016.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
