Deborah Podurgiel WSET IV Candidate rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Hunter Valley is producing some interesting whites these days and McGuigan Bin 9000 Semillon 2015 is one of them. The 2015 vintage is pale lemon-green and its hay and cut-grass colour is true to its nose and palate. Also on the nose is citrus, mineral and light white flowers. On the palate, the wine is dry and zesty with hay, cut grass, mineral, honey, citrus flavours and finishes very, very long. I know this wine should be a wine to be enjoyed “fresh and young” but I wonder, because at the same wine tasting session we tasted its 2007 older sister and it was amazing. In addition to being dry with zippy acidity and floral flavours (also finished long), there were sweet cake spice, honey, stone fruit and apricot, bread and toast flavours on the 2007 (not available for purchase). But, “so what, 2015 is a different vintage” you say. True, but in talking with the winemaker, the 2015 Semillon was made from the same terroir and conditions using the same wine making methods and techniques in the same way and in steel tank no less with NO oak. I had to ask twice about that and he was adamant about the “no oak or wood treatment”. So, is this wine an earlier drinker? Could the grapes in this wine have been botrytis-affected? There is certainly enough fruit and acidity in this wine that it could cellar for a few years. And for $15, wouldn’t it be worth cellaring a half-case for a few years to see if it does have the similar character of its older sister? Hmmm…what to do with the other half case? Enjoy!
