A bold and juicy Old Vines Cabernet Sauvignon from Argentina. Intense blackberry, cherry, nutty and fresh herb flavours on the palate. Tannins are firm. Nice now but better in another year to give the wine time to come together. Very promising. Pair with grilled burgers or tortiere.

Reviews and Ratings

L.J. Palmer WSET 3 rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Deep ruby coloured wine, very dry, well balanced with soft tannins and a pronounced aroma of green pepper, baking spice, vanilla, dark fruit, tobacco and sweet dark plum; almost plum jam. Lots of flavours and aromas but took 30 minutes for all of them to show themselves. Paired very well with grilled steak and roasted vegetables; the sweet roasted sweet potato linked nicely to the sweet aromas and flavour in the wine.
Finish was primarily green pepper and dark red fruit. Lovely wine and a real value!
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Great value and lots of great flavours. Aromas of black currant and plum, with smoky spice, earth and sweet tobacco notes. Full bodied and smooth on the palate, with some young-ish tannins that smooth out with 30 minutes in the decanter. Flavours on the palate include ripe and dried red fruit and berry, with dried herbs and spice on the finish, along with a hint of oak. Enjoy with a grilled steak or marinated beef kebabs.
Trapiche Medalla 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is big and bold and fantastic value under $17. Produced from vines planted in 1960. Love the ripe blackberry, cigar box, mocha aromas on the nose. Juicy with liquid blackberry, dark plum, fine herb and nutty flavours on the palate. Good now, better in 2021. - Community Wine Reviews
