Natalie's Score: 90/100 A succulent, lip-smacking tasty Spanish red wine blend. Tanned leather, dried herbs and dried red fruit on the nose and palate. The Yecla wine region is in southern kin and is an emerging area to watch for quality wines. This wine is a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% low-yield Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% low-yield Garnacha. The wine is aged in oak barrels for 10 months. Pair with lamb and rosemary.
Food pairings: roast lamb, grilled pork chops, pepper steak.

Reviews and Ratings
Daniel O'Keefe rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review: Red cherry, black cherry, dried cranberry, pomegranate, and sandalwood in the potent bouquet. Very fruity, ripe, and tasty. Finish adds cocoa, earth, and herbal notes to the ripe dark fruit flavours. Good structure and integration, reaching its peak. Enjoy over the next few years with meats braised in this or a similar wine served with roasted vegetables.
Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: Blended from 70% Mourvedre, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Grenache, the Solanera 2015 shows lovely attributes and drinkability. Aromas of black raspberry, blueberry, lavender, tobacco, vanilla, mocha and oak are present. The winery is located in the beautiful city of Yelca in Spain - a region often forgotten for the more renown Rioja region. Nonetheless, Yelca shows its know-how and quality winemaking. The Solanera is a full-bodied wine with a great balance and lingering finish. Palate, blueberry, blackberry, black pepper, fennel, smoke and oak. Enjoy!
Craig Haynes - WSET3 FWS SWS IWS rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: Aromas of raspberry and blackberry preserves mingled beautifully with black-pepper, sandalwood and vanilla note in this opaque, ruby red offering from Bodegas Castano. This stylish blend - 70% Mourvedre, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Grenache – was medium to full bodied with velvety tannins. Bodega Castano is a family owned winery is situated along the Yecla Wine Route in southeastern Spain. Enjoy. Reviewed on March 11, 2020
Melanie Lloyd - Certified Sommelier reviewed this wine as follows: Aromas of blackcurrant jelly, cigar box, pot-pourrit and a touch of cinnamon. The tannins are medium and well integrated with the fresh acidity. There is blackberry, black plums and a slightly woody flavour. Tasted November 2017
Produced by Castaño, Solanera (2015) is a red wine blend of old vines Monastrell, Cabernet Sauvignon and Garnacha Tintorera (Alicante Bouschet) wine grapes from Spain`s Yecla wine region. Great value under $20, pair this wine with braised beef. The wine was aged in 80% French and 20% American oak. Wine grapes are sourced from Casa Marta, a dry-farmed vineyard at the foot of the Mount Arabí. Drink now and for the next three years. - Community Wine Reviews
