This robust Chilean red wine is made from Caménère vines planted with a southern exposure along the Tinguiririca River's old terraces. The winery practices sustainable agriculture. A lovely expression of Colchagua Valley terroir. This is a terrific, full-bodied Chilean red wine made from the country's signature red wine grape Caménère. Caménère is believed to have traveled from Bordeaux, where it was one of the six original grape varieties planted there before the devastation from the root louse Phylloxera in 1867 wiped out all the vines. Chile's natural protections from this vine louse include the ocean, the Andes mountains and the dessert. Caménère is named for it's colour - crimson (carmine). It has some similarities with Merlot but is not the same grape. Aromas of dark red fruit and toasty oak and pepper on the finish. Pair with grilled pork chops.

Carmenère food pairings: wine-braised beef, turkey with gravy, chorizo tacos, bean fajitas.

Reviews and Ratings

Rachelle O'Connor rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

A great value Carmenere the signature Chilean grape, made with grapes grown in the Colchagua Valley -Bell pepper and dark fruit on the nose, with a palate rich in flavors of dark plush fruit, violet, tobacco, smooth tannins and lovely, well integrated notes of oak.
Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Deeply coloured with predominant elements of black fruit and herbaceousness featuring cherry, blackberry, dark skinned plum, forest undergrowth, flower petals, pepper and roasted meat. Flavours showcase black currant, vanilla, plum pudding, caramel, chocolate, plum, eucalyptus, sage and rosemary with spicy pepper heat at the back. Medium plus body and tannins with medium acidity and a delightfully long, dry finish Dry (2g\L). Rich and robust. Hair with smoked meats, game and strong cheeses. 91 points - tasted April 2017
Primus (2015) is great value under $20. This is a full-bodied Caménère expressive of its terroir in the Colchagua Valley. Look for ripe blueberries and mulberry with soft cake spice. Drink now and for the next five years. - Community Wine Reviews
