This southern French red wine from the Rhone is brought to us by Plan De Dieu Aubert Frères. Tasty, full-bodied and delicious! Superb value: staggeringly great for the price. Aromas of cedar, black fruit, smoke and juicy black cherry. This wine is a blend of 70% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre and 20% Syrah grapes. This, my friends, is your party wine. It'll dance with anything on the grill.

Food pairings: gourmet hamburgers, grilled pork chops, barbecued steak.

Reviews and Ratings

Bernard Ethier rated this wine as 91/100
Pamela Chiles rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Great value in this Villages wine. Lively dark berry-cherry notes followed by an edgy-earthy-savoury character keep you sipping away and the mouthwatering acidity ensures a good match for all sorts of dishes - chops, burgers, lentils, hearty soups, stews and more.
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Legend has it that in the Middle Ages, when you travelled through this bandit-infested scrubland, you were taking your life in your hands. You needed to pray for God's help to arrive alive, this legend being a reference to the origin of the name Plan de Dieu (God’s Plain). Nowadays, thankfully, the region is safer and is famous for robust, full-bodied red wines such as this one. Ripe dark fruit, garrique, meaty notes and a touch of smoke make it memorable and a great match for elk or beef burgers. Terrific value!
From the L'excellence series of Aubert Frères, Proprietor-Récolt, this robust French red wine previously has won a Gold medal at the Concours Général Agricole wine competition. This wine is a blend of 75% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre and 15% Syrah grapes. This, my friends, is your party wine. It'll dance with anything on the grill. The phrase "Plan de Dieu" is noted in viticultural records dating as far back as 1362 (the Middle Ages) in reference to the Church's vineyards. This winery was promoted to prestigious status of Côtes du Rhône-Villages in 2005. The wines are a blend mostly of Grenache grapes, but always with at least 20% Syrah and Mourvèdre. - Community Wine Reviews
