What's remarkable is the careful and personal detail each of the 6000 barrels get for this wine. They are all hand-stirred weekly when aging on the lees to add creamy texture and rich depth. Every wine is touched every week by the winemaking team for 8 months, a term the French call batonnage to extract flavour from the proteins and yeasts in the wine that would naturally settle on the bottom and not have much impact. This process really builds the mid-palate. This wine is 100% barrel-fermented. Aromas of butterscotch, toasty oak and golden apple. This wine is available on the general list year-round outside of Vintages.

Chardonnay food pairings: poached salmon with sautéed snap peas and snow peas, Thai seafood noodle salad, butternut squash risotto,.

Reviews and Ratings

Melanie Aubert rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

The Columbia Crest Chardonnay is heavily oaked, medium- to full-bodied and tastes of green apple followed by caramel and butterscotch. These last two oak characteristics are a result of barrel fermentation, during which the wine is hand stirred weekly for a number of months. That’s a lot of stirring for 60,000 barrels! Considering the labour that goes into it, this is a great-value wine at $17.95.

Gwen Barton rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Lovely Chardonnay out of Columbia Valley, Washington. Carmel and tropical fruit aromas with lots of apple and more tropical fruit in the mouth. Well balanced with soft oak notes and nice acidity. Tasted :Sept 2017. Try pairing with pork souvlaki.
Manon Maerten rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

Gold color with thick tears.
The nose is very aromatic with cooked apple notes white flowers and present but subtle oak notes of toasted bread.
The palate is elegant and round. Very buttery, creamy and toasted. However it is not heavy thanks to an acidity still present that balances very well.
The finish is long.
Would be great with a chicken with morellos or aged cheeses.
Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 85/100 with the following review:

Fresh stone fruit, melon, and an interesting pine (resinous) note dominate the aromas. Flavours showcase overripe apples, baked apples, overripe honeydew melon, honey, and just overall, overripe fruit. A nice vanilla sweetness is also present. I prefer whites with much more acidity. Great winery for bargain merlots though! Tasted March 2017 by @sommsosa | bespoketastings.ca
