From the well renown Compania Vinicola del Norte de Espana “CVNE” winery, located in the Rioja valley of Spain, the Vina Real Crianza 2016 reveals aromas sour cherry, sugarplum, mustard seed, pastrami, cinnamon, tobacco and oak. Made from 90% Tempranillo and 10% Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuela, this Spanish wine shows pleasant balance and a well-defined finish. Well suited for food pairing or after dinner, the Vina Real delivers flavors of cherry, strawberry, dried leaves, game, spice and oak.

I am following a Winemaster Series and so depending on the wine region featured I purchase a bottle of wine from that region and sip it along with the show. This week, the series showcased some of the wineries and wines of Rioja so I thought I would try a moderately-priced Crianza produced by Compania Vinicola Norle De Espana (CVNE).
Produced from mostly Tempranillo, the wine grape of Rioja, this is a vibrant and well-balanced Crianza from the Rioja Alavesa, spicy, floral and bright with red berry and red plum aromas on the nose; dry, medium-plus-bodied with cedar brush, white pepper, juicy red plum, red currant, black currant flavours on the palate, lithe, welcoming and elegant with a spicy finish, balanced acidity and very approachable tannins. Easy to love. Tasted January 2021.
|From the Rioja wine region, Viña Real Crianza 2016 is a smoky, lip-smacking Tempranillo-driven red with ripe dark plum, ripe cherry, blackberry, dried herbs and baking spice flavours on the palate. Tannins are fine. Pair with a pork sausage cassoulet and roasted potatoes. - Community Wine Reviews|
