Reviews and Ratings

Lori Kilmartin WSET3 - WSET3 Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Lots of dark fruit; blackberry, blueberry and black cherry as well as aromas of tobacco, smoke and leather. Soft mouthfeel with high tannins. A full bodied, well balanced wine. Made with 85 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 8 percent Syrah and 7 percent Merlot this is a very drinkable wine that I would definitely buy again. Tasted Nov. 9, 2016.
Pamela Chiles rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Sweet blackberry, spice, full-bodied with grippy, almost rough tannins, big and chewy; great with a rib-eye steak.
“Our Hess Select Cabernet delivers in so many ways, offering a virtual tour of some of the best North Coast vineyards in Napa and Lake counties. It’s noticeably bright in taste with a ruby color, joined by aromas and flavors of red fruits led by raspberry and cherry. Darker fruits also abound, with black cherry and spicy notes of currants, anise, cloves and cedar, highlighted with a touch of vanilla. This tastes like Cabernet should – at least how we believe it should taste – and is soft and round, medium-bodied and pleasant to drink, and isn’t that what it’s all about? Best of all, it’s a wine you can depend on, perfect to serve with informal BBQ right on through to Saturday night date night steak.” Dave Guffy, Winemaker Source: Winery (The Hess Collection) This Californian winery, Hess, has been a member of 1% for the Planet for quite some time. The Hess Collection donates $20,000 of its wine sales every year to Napa land preservation and education programs. The Hess Collection winery was established in 1978 by Donald Hess, a Swiss businessman and art collector. It became known for its Cabernet Sauvignon wines in the 1990s. - Community Wine Reviews
