A tasty, full-bodied, smooth Portuguese red wine blend made from native grapes. Flavours of sweet plums and blackberries, along with spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg. Thus, the name of the wine in reference to the traditional spice route around Portugal merchant sailing vessels took to get to the East in the 1500s to buy spices and trade goods. Pair with Hawaiian pizza or Mexican mole.

Great value. Fruit forward, medium body. Juicy raspberry, savoury herb. Pair with grilled chicken burgers, BBQ comfort foods like saucy wings and ribs. Tasted 2016 vintage in Dec 2017. 87 points.
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

A smooth, full-bodied red blend of native Portuguese varietals. Lots of dark plum, prune and stewed fruit, with cloves adding an intriguing spicy element. Enjoy with grilled spicy sausage and sauerkraut.
