Made with Laser-precision, a cult Super Tuscan and flagship, Sassicaia is a powerful, ultra-balanced red blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc grapes. Full-bodied and elegant with ripe blackberry, red cherry, spice, grilled herb and spicy on the palate. Finishing luxuriously long. You can get lost in this wine. Tannins are firm and fine. Ready to begin to show its best in about three years and enjoy for 25 more.

Food pairings: filet mignon, pork tenderloin, pizza, pasta, hard cheese.

Reviews and Ratings

L.J. Palmer WSET 3 rated this wine as 96/100 with the following review:

Medium ruby wine, dry, full bodied and rich with balanced acidity, polished tannins and a gorgeous fruit taste. The complex fruit forward aroma features black cherry, juicy yet tart cranberry, and black pepper. Tastes are of red cherry , cranberry and spice (black pepper). The wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
Lori Kilmartin WSET3 - WSET3 Sommelier rated this wine as 95/100 with the following review:

If you have some spare cash on October 27/2019 head to the LCBO. This latest release of Sassicaia will be available in Vintages. Here's your chance to put a bottle (or bottles) of Super Tuscans in your cellar.

It's been said this is a wine to rival the highly acclaimed 1985 vintage. Now, having NOT tasted that bottle I can't compare - but I will say this is a wine worth every cent you will spend on it.

The blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc alone is enough to give pause. Tenuta San Guido's technical sheets say for the climate that: "2016 is a vintage worthy of praise, considered by some even better than the exceptional 2015"

Layers and layers of aromas and flavour; dark brooding fruit; blackberry and black cherry. Spice and herbs, caramel and vanilla. Definitive tannins that are very present but will smooth out with age. Balanced acidity and a long long finish that you want to go on forever.

I've got a few weeks to save up - trust me - I am!!

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 94/100 with the following review:

Once you've tasted Sassicaia, you'll never forget it! So satiny smooth and rich, with fragrant rippling layers of flavour; cherry, cedar, dark fruit, spice and dark chocolate flow over your tongue. Lingering rich finish leaves you knowing it is worth every penny. You only live once, so splurge on a bottle of this for your next special occasion. Available at LCBO Vintages oct. 26th, 2019.
