Reviews and Ratings

Courtney Flood rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Love this Cabernet Franc! From winemaker Derek Barnett with about 30 years of experience, he coaxed some magic of of this grape. Sweet cherry, raspberry jam balanced with black peppercorn and violet. Elegant and juicy, medium bodied and great food wine. Pairs great with Italian tomato-based dishes - eggplant parmesan, lasagna, margherita pizza.

Tasted in December 2020 with the winemaker - socially distanced on Zoom...
Rebecca Meir-Liebman - Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

One of talented winemaker Derek Barnett’s first bottles from his new winery, Meldville Wines. Mr. Barnett is known for the wines he crafted at Lailey Winery, which were rich and age-able. Once again, he does not disappoint. This new Cabernet Franc is elegant and medium-bodied, with rich black cherries, raspberry and tobacco notes. Allowing the skins to sit with the juice for 24 days gives this wine its deep ruby colour, and thirteen months in old French oak infuses subtle vanilla notes into the wine. Due to strange weather conditions – a very wet June and super dry July – 2015 proved to be a challenging vintage for Niagara winemakers, but Mr. Barnett managed to produce an elegant, pleasant wine regardless, one that is best enjoyed with pasta Bolognese, veal saltinbocca or roasted duck leg.
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Enjoyed in 2019! Aromas of bright red fruit, including raspberry and cherry, along with some smoky tobacco and a hint of green herbs. Medium bodied on the palate, with moderate acidity and fresh red fruit. I was slightly worried as the cork was quite stained, but this wine has held up well, although perhaps would have been off if I waited much longer simply due to the cork condition. There is a hint of smoky vanilla on the finish, but overall I was wowed by the vibrant fruit and overall great balance with smoke, acid and a hint of oaky warmth. Enjoy with grilled sausage and veggies during an end of summer BBQ.
