Viña Ardanza Reserva 2008 is a robust Spanish red wine produced mostly from 80% Tempranillo, and 20% Grenache from the winery's new vineyards in the village of Tudelilla, La Pedriza. The Tempranillo wine juice was aged in older oak barrels for 36 months with the Grenache wine juice aged in second and third-use barrels for 30 months. Ripe, juicy red plums, raspberries, cake spice flavours can be found on the palate. Tannins are well-integrated and there is good acidity for food on this full-bodied red made from rich and meaty game dishes.

Food pairings: beef stroganoff, barbecued ribs, fruit chutneys, cassoulet, steak fajitas.

Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Fragrant, elegant and beautifully balanced. Ripe cherry, plum, sweet spice and vanilla aromas, repeated on a mellow palate that reflects the Garnacha varietal with flair. Satiny and elegant to the last drop. Fantastic with roast lamb or game. Can't wait to try this again!

Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

This wine is everything you could hope for in a Rioja. Old school, featuring lots of fresh and dried black cherry, blueberry/iron, spice, dried tobacco, cedar and juniper. The wine dances on the palate and surfs your tastebuds towards the finish. Pair with leg of lamb. 93 Points
