Reviews and Ratings

Daniel O'Keefe rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Intense colour. Plenty of coffee and chocolate aromas, as well as chocolate-covered dark fruit. Good acidity, robust tannins, and a full body. A decent Pinotage that isn't too modern/commercial/overly chocolate/coffee, and definitely possessing food friendly structure. Pleasant and agreeable, try this with coffee-rubbed ribeye steaks.
Carolyn Hetke rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

This Pinotage has the characteristic plum and black fruit on the nose and palate with a distinctly waxy nose. Full-bodied with grippy tannins. Medium plus finish. Pair with burgers or pulled pork. Tasted July 2019. www.thewineloverskitchen.com
From the Western Cape wine region, House Of Mandela Phumla 2017 Pinotage is a velvety satisfyingly savoury and smoky red wine with dark plum, blackberry, savoury herb flavours on the palate with a lingering dark cocoa finish. The wine was brought up in stainless-steel tank and matured with French oak staves for 10 months prior to bottling. The Mandelas are the descendants of a royal bloodline that dates back to the 18th century. Enjoy with a big game roast. - Community Wine Reviews

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
