Domaine les Fumées Blanches Sauvignon Blanc 2023 is a fresh and aromatic white from the rolling hills of Gascony in southwest France, a region better known for its Armagnac but increasingly celebrated for its vibrant, fruit-driven whites. The nose is lively and immediately appealing, with zesty grapefruit, green apple, freshly cut grass, and a characteristic smoky, flint-like quality that gives the domaine its name. On the palate it is light to medium bodied with crisp acidity, clean citrus fruit, and a refreshing, clean finish that makes it an effortlessly drinkable everyday white. It is vinified entirely in stainless steel to preserve the grape's natural aromatics and brightness. Fascinating fact: The name Fumées Blanches, meaning white smoke in French, is a poetic reference to the early morning mists that rise over the Gascon vineyards at harvest time, a phenomenon that helps preserve the grapes' natural acidity and aromatic intensity. This wine is best enjoyed well chilled at 8 to 10°C in a standard white wine glass, where its citrus and herbal freshness can shine at their brightest.

Sauvignon Blanc food pairings: oysters on the half shell, zucchini fritters, fresh asparagus with lemon butter, grilled prawns, soft fresh chèvre.

Reviews and Ratings

Carolyn Hetke rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

This 100% Sauvignon Blanc reflects the limestone/clay soils of Gascogne nicely. Citrus, mineral and floral aromas mingle pleasantly. The palate is showing bright lemon, grapefruit, and minerality, all enhanced by an interesting, taut edge. Time on the lees and maturation in small amphoras and barrels add some texture and complexity. The finish is pleasant and long. Pair this refreshing Sauvignon Blanc with smoked trout, oysters or roasted chicken. Tasted 30 April 2026. (thewineloverskitchen.com)
