Savoury and juicy with aromas and flavours of fleshy black plums and smoke. Firm tannins so decant 1-2 hours. Ultra-plush red wine for diehard merlot fans seeking the Platonic ideal of merlot. Founders Daniel and Margaret Duckhorn have created quite a following for their Merlot-based wines since they first made them in the 1970s, as well as other classic Bordeaux grapes. Cellar this beauty or enjoy it with grilled pork chops tonight.

Merlot food pairings: bison burgers, steaks, crown pork roast.

Reviews and Ratings

Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Deep ruby colour with intricate, fruity aromas. Dark cherry, dark plum, prune, smoky tar, mineral and chocolate. On the palate the flavours echo much of this with rich dark skinned plum, cherry, red berry compote, anise, bakers chocolate and vanilla. Even a hint of caramel lingers. Medium plus acidity, medium polished tannins. Full, rich body and a long finish lingering. Pleasant fruity mouthfeel. Dry and delicious. Pair with lamb chops and flank steak.

Melanie Lloyd - Certified Sommelier reviewed this wine as follows:

A ruby coloured Merlot with aromas of raspberries, black plums, blackberries, earthy beets and a touch of menthol. In terms of flavour, there is raspberries, blackberries, blackcurrant jelly and dark chocolate. It has good acidity, moderate tannins, and a long finish.
