Natalie's Score: 88/100

A savoury, mouth-watering Bordeaux red wine blend of Cabernet and Merlot grapes. Aromas of blackberries and cassis and smoke. Lots of juicy acidity on the palate for tangy meat sauces. The grapes are grown on a sloping vineyard with south/southeast exposure to the sun in clay-flint soil with a ferrous substrate. Pair with game meats and grilled lamb.

Food pairings: lamb cutlets, beef tenderloin, pork shoulder roast.

Reviews and Ratings

Melanie Lloyd - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

This ruby coloured Bordeaux Superieur has aromas of juicy plums, dark chocolate, baking spices, and the sweet smell of autumn leaves. On the palate, it is full bodied with flavours of tart plums and cassis, subtle notes of underwood and potpourri, and a touch of wood and roasted cocoa beans at the finish. Pair with roast beef.

Tasted January 2018
The Château Recougne 2014 is a blend of 90% Merlot, 2% Carmenère and 8% Cabernet Franc. On the nose, the wine is ripe red berries and cherries. On the palate, more the same finishing with a flinty minerality. Drink now and for the next five years. Pair with a roast pheasant. - Community Wine Reviews

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a fiesty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
