A luscious and rich Californian Pinot Noir with sweet cherry and mocha aromas and flavours on the nose and palate. This is one of four single vineyard wines from this Californian winery. The vines for this Pinot Noir grow in alluvial soils of the Russian River Valley. Heavy fog rolls in over the coastal range and burns off when the sun reaches its highest point in the day. This cooling morning effect and the loamy soils allows the Dijon clone of Pinot Noir in this wine to ripen slowly but to full maturity. Rich and chocolaty: although this is a dry wine technically, it has a generously sweet nose due to the ripeness of the fruit and the toasty oak again. Mocha and espresso flavours on the palate with fleshy sweet dark cherry notes. Supple and smooth. Pair with grilled chicken, Mexican mole or dark chocolate.

Pinot Noir food pairings: grilled chicken, roast pheasant, stuffed roast of veal breast.

Reviews and Ratings

Rachelle O'Connor rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

The vines for this Pinot Noir grow in the well known Russian River Vally - the nose is refined, elegant and inviting. The ripeness of the fruit is noted in the aromas brimming from the glass - chocolate, cola, blackberry and black cherry on the nose. Lots of fruit on the palate - backberry and cherry, licorice and a well supported lingering spicy cola finish.
Melanie Lloyd - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

A black cherry coloured Pinot Noir, much darker than what we frequently see with the Pinot Noir variety.

It has aromas of ripe berries, mostly blueberries and raspberries, as well as vanilla, sweet spice, and wood.

The flavours are of ripe blueberries and vanilla, with tannins that are present but well balanced by a vibrant acidity. With this fuller bodied pinot noir, we would find a nice food pairing with barbecued beef or sausage.

Tasted October 2017
Produced by winemaker, Joseph J. Wagner, this Pinot Noir wine grapes for Belle Glos Dairyman Vineyard (2015) were grown in the alluvial soils of the Russian River Valley. Heavy fog rolls in over the valley, eventually burning off with off with the hot, noon day sun. This cooling effect in the morning and the loamy soils allows the Dijon clone of Pinot Noir in this wine to ripen slowly but to full maturity. Look for blackberry compote, sweet cake spice, mocha and vanilla (from oak ageing) on the palate. Nice balance and acidity on this wine. - Community Wine Reviews
