Reviews and Ratings

Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

2012 Rioja Gran Reserva. I’m a fan of other wines from Baron de Ley and this one is a very good value for the quality presented. This one has Strawberry, raisin, woody prune, cigarbox and hazelnut dark chocolate all make an elegant appearance here. Minerals also cling to the back, with supple anise, clove and balsamic spices. tannins are strong but polished and the acidity is well integrated into the full body and finish. Dry and well refined. Mature and ready to drink now with roasted lamb or beef brisket. 90 points - tasted December 2018
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Lovely and well balanced. Aromas of dark fruit, cedar, cigar box, green herbs, leather and campfire smoke. Full bodied on the palate, with some bright acidity, and lots of smoky and leathery notes. Enjoy with grilled sausages, lamb, or a rich stew.
Baron de Ley Gran Reserva 2012 is a full-bodied Spanish red wine with a dried strawberry, raisin and cigar box nose, lovely leather, smoky dark fruit and hazelnut flavours on the palate. Great acidity on this maturing Rioja. Enjoy now or hold for another five years. Pair with a roast of pork. - Community Wine Reviews
