Dear Natalie, April 13, 2012

Friday the 13th is actually lucky for wine lovers because tomorrow's wine picks feature several lovely floral white wines and some luscious robust reds from Argentina as well as a great line-up of organic and eco-friendly wines from many regions.

I'd like to thank Jean C in Ottawa for the idea of including the stock at your 5 closest liquor stores to your shopping list. Now you can see which store has all the wines you want ... no more running from store to store to get everything on your list.

I'd also like to thank Paul V for his equally brilliant idea of using GPS and real-time liquor store stock inventory in the mobile wine apps to give you my top 10 wines for the store
you're in. Forget shopping lists, just tell me what you like in this store right now.

Finally, thanks for your insightful feedback on the latest features in the free mobile wine apps: bar code scanner and virtual cellar log. Your support has enabled us to make them one of the few mobile wine apps on all three major platforms (iPhone, Android and BlackBerry) ... more importantly, they're free :)

I'd like to thank whomever came up with the concept of a free trial period for a paid service, but that goes back to cave man days -- don't ask :) With your complimentary two months of premium service, you can access all my wine scores when you're logged in.

I've just launched a Sommelier Series of interviews with top-notch wine wizards: Lorie O'Sullivan, Will Predhomme and Jimson Bienenstock. They share their secrets to enjoying wine, choosing from a restaurant list and living the life of a sommelier.

These interviews were originally published in my column for the luxury magazine Homefront. Let me know if there's a sommelier you think I should interview next. Enjoy this sunny-patio, wine-lovin' weekend!

Wines of the Week
Torrontes is probably the most lovely and floral white wine that you've never heard of. This release features two in particular I'm fond of. As well there are plenty of full-bodied malbecs, cabernets and shiraz for those early spring barbecues. See all my picks for Best Value and Top Rated red, white, sparkling, rose and dessert wines here ... More »

Wine Pairing of the Week
This recipe for Chicken Breast Stuffed with Chevre, Pancetta and Fresh Herbs pairs beautifully with Torrontes or Sauvignon Blanc. Chef and caterer extraordinaire Tracey Black created this sumptuous dish. She's just re-opened her gourmet food take-out shop in Ottawa. Why cook when she can make it for you? If you insist though, here's the recipe ... More »

Wine Tip of the Week
Organically grown grapes don't guarantee you a better or more healthful wine, nor does it mean less of a hangover! But it does mean that the producer is paying close attention to the vine health and the winemaking process. That increases your odds of getting a better quality wine. Here's more from my interview with the Wall Street Journal's Smart Money Magazine ... More »

In this CTV 6 p.m. newscast, I went bargain wine showing with the anchor of the show.
