Savoury and delicious with great complexity, concentration and depth. Aromas of tanned leather, cigar box, violets and wild truffles. Pair with prime rib.

Reviews and Ratings

Courtney Flood rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

One of those wines that you could be satisfied just smelling. Rich aromas of blueberry, cooked cherry, milk chocolate, and chai tea with herbal undertones. However, I did eventually taste it and a got a nicely aged, smooth Brunello with a racy acidity, a continuation of the rich aromas, and a slight bitterness and tannin at the end. Great for a braised meat dish.
Douglas McMillan rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Lots of depth here, with aromas of old leather, violets, earth, cigar box, dark cherry and ripe blueberries. The blueberry and cherry greet you on the palate first with the silky tannins coming in afterwards, giving it a very silky mouth feel. The finish is long a lush, featuring the tannins and rich fruit.
Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Produced with 100% Sangiovese grapes, hailing from Montalcino, the famous Brunello de Montalcino have become some of the most sought after wines around the world. Soft, luscious, and layered, this is a Brunello that can be enjoyed now, although it has the structure to benefit from another 5-10 years of cellaring. Enjoy with rich Italian fare, including Osso Bucco, or lasagna. Tasted February 2015. 92 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
Sean O'Regan - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Medium ruby, with cherry, plum, vanilla, cedar and spice on the nose. The palate repeats the nose here with a soft, round silky mouthfeel and finely integrated tannins that sneak up on the finish. Drink over the next 5 years with aged cheddar or heartly Italian meat sauce dishes. Feb 1, 2015
Valérie Dufour - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Brunellos are on the top of my list. They are expensive, but when you have the chance to taste one that is well made and ready to drink, it is worth it. This is the case with the 2009 CastelGiocondo. The wine is at its peak with dried leaves, tobacco and cherries in eau-de-vie on the nose. The mouth is delicate and long. A silky wine. Would be great with an osso bucco.
Robert Mcmillan rated this wine as 85/100
