Indian Summer Select

Cave Spring Indian Summer Select Late Harvest Riesling 2017

Lincoln Lakeshore, Niagara Peninsula, Ontario V.Q.A., Canada
738 days ago

Trent scored this wine: 94/100

An excellent sweet late harvest wine sourced from their Lincoln Lakeshore Vineyard. The grapes are left on the vine to air dry and increase their sugar content; the wine term for this process is passerillage. Mouth filling apricots and honey with a balancing lemony acidity and just a suggestion of hay here. It would make an outstanding accompaniment for panna cotta with honeyed apricots, foie gras, or blue veined cheeses. 4.5 stars out of 5

I fell in love with Vino Nobile in Tuscany a number of years ago. This is a 2011 at a good price point that’s fully developed from bottle age with some blackberry and black cherry with dried cherry, cedar, menthol, and vanilla, plus a modest violet aroma. If you want to experience how wine develops over time in the bottle, pick up some to drink now, and pair it with charcuterie, hard cheese, or meaty pasta. 4.5 stars out of 5.

Brut Reserve

Taittinger Brut Reserve Champagne

Champagne A.O.C., France

Trent scored this wine: 93/100

Taittinger has everything you would expect from excellent French Champagne. I suspect this is mostly Pinot Noir based on the aroma and flavour profile. Lovely fine streams of bubbles carry amazing red cherry and raspberry, along with toast, bread, dried apple, and lemony acidity on the finish. Great for celebrations of all kinds. Now priced at $76.95. 4.5 stars out of 5.

Alta Collection San Pablo Vineyard

Tapiz Alta Collection San Pablo Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina

Trent scored this wine: 93/100

The most famous red from Argentina is Malbec, but Cabernet Sauvignon may soon catch up. The high altitude vineyards in the Uco Valley in Mendoza have produced a red with incredible ripeness balanced by remarkable acidity. This single vineyard wine is dry, delicious, and full bodied. It illustrates the aromas and flavours that have made Cabernet so popular. Expect intense cassis, blackberry, black cherry, tobacco, vanilla, and mint with earthy underbrush on the finish. Lovely addition to a meal with spice rubbed pork roast, steak, or mushrooms roasted with olive oil and thyme. 4+ stars out of 5

Elevation St. Urban Vineyard

Vineland Estates Winery Elevation St. Urban Vineyard Riesling 2020

Niagara Escarpment, Ontario V.Q.A., Canada

Trent scored this wine: 93/100

This Niagara Riesling is always very good, but the 2020 takes it up to excellent. The brilliant acidity allows it to pass for off dry even though the sugar level dictates it medium sweet. The nose is full of fresh lime, lemon, grapefruit, peach, honey and stony mineral and the palate adds on ripe apricot. The flavours linger on your tongue. With all that, it's no wonder it's getting noticed scoring a Silver Medal in Decanter's World Wine Awards. It would be delicious with a marmalade glazed ham or with Gruyere cheese (or both on a sandwich). Acid structure to age for 7- 10 years (or more). 4+ stars out of 5
