This was my weekend wine pick: a great red from South Africa. Interesting blend of 80% Cinsault and 20 % Tinta barroca – a cool story since Tinta barroca is a varietal from Portugal. Another cool story is the name since “Papegaai” sounds like “papagaio” which means parrot in Portuguese. A nice red colour with aromas and flavours of red fruits. Good choice for Friday pizza evenings. Fun and cool label. 13.5% alcohol. Available at the SAQ (Code SAQ: 13632306) at $19.15.

This was my weekend wine pick: a nice red blend wine from California’s E. & J. Gallo Winery. With a ruby red colour and aromas of cherry, berry and vanilla. Medium bodied and dry with flavours of berry and vanilla with a pronounced touch of sweet oak spice to finish. I paired it with a meat pizza. A very cool creative and fun label. 12% alcohol. Available at the LCBO (Code LCBO: 226514) at $14.95.
