Another delicious wine from Long Island, NY! This was my weekend wine pick: the fantastic Chardonnay from Channing Daughters. Nice straw colour in the glass. I got flavours and aromas of green apple followed by citrus and paired it with an appetizer of seafood salad (shrimps, octopus, squid and mussels) and a main course of scallops and wild rice. 13% alcohol. Fun intriguing label. Available at the SAQ (Code SAQ: 14509916) at $29.80.

Who knew there were delicious wines being produced in Long Island, NY? This was my weekend wine pick: I discovered this great red blend from Channing Daughters: 64% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Franc, 6% Blaufrankisch and 4% Dornfelder. Light red colour. Obvious aromas and flavours of red berries with an interesting acid finish. Paired well with “tourtine”, the new popular dish in Quebec that combines two classics: poutine and tourtiere. 12% alcohol. Fun intriguing label. Available at the LCBO (LCBO#: 695469) at $34.90.

This was my wine choice for the first weekend of the New Year: a full-bodied red wine from Lisbon’s AdegaMãe winery. What a great blend of 39% Touriga Nacional, 27% Touriga Franca, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon and 16% Petit verdot. Dark purplish colour in the glass. Aromas and flavours of dark fruits with a liquorice finish. Fun fact: it spent 14 months in French oak barrels. Beautiful intriguing label. 13.5% alcohol. Paired well with roasted beef and potatoes. Available at the SAQ (Code SAQ: 13626336) at $26.95.

This was my weekend wine pick that helped me keep up with the festive mood between Christmas and New Year’s: a lovely sparkling blend of vidal and pinot noir from one of Prince Edward County's original wineries: Rosehall Run. Nice light pink colour in the glass with aromas and flavours raspberries and cranberries which gives it a balanced dry finish. I paired well with a spicy black beans’ hamburger. VQA wine. 11% alcohol. Available at the LCBO (Code LCBO: 492959) at $19.95.
