Conca de Barberà

Conca de Barberà Grans Muralles 2011

Conca De Barberà, Spain

Paula scored this wine: 92/100

Great event at the Ritz-Carlton in Montreal on August 28 where Miguel Torres Maczassek, CEO of the famous Torres family and member of the fifth generation, hosted a special wine tasting. Over thirty years ago, the Torres family embarked on an exciting project close to its heart: the revival of ancestral varieties that were believed extinct after the devastating phylloxera plague of the late 19th century. The Grans Muralles was my favourite red at the event. With 15% alcohol, a beautiful cherry colour, this is a full bodied wine. Includes five varieties of grapes: Garnacha tinta, Monastrell, Querol, Cariñena, Garró. Pairs well with red meats.

I really enjoyed the white Forcada. With nice citrus aromas, I liked the sweet acidity and the citrus and pear tasting. A nice option to have on its own as a starter. Or pair with white fish and seafood.

Great event by Vins Philippe Dandurand Wines in Montreal June 20 on the superb Terrasse Perchée in the heart of Old Montreal showcasing 6 rosés for the summer. A pale rosé from Chili 100% Grenache. Nice elegant bottle. Flavours of berries. Paired well with nachos. Available at the SAQ.
