Medium red color. Distinctively red fruited, bursting with sweet cherry and delicate plum. Followed by black pepper, then clove and fruitcake spice. With hints of anise, strawberry, and some citrus blossoms (tangerine zest??) lingering in the background. This Pinot is medium-bodied, smooth and easy-drinking with excellent structure and terrific acidity. Flavors of sweet cherry, blackberry and possibly strawberry. Notes of white & black pepper, nutmeg with a host of other spicy characteristics. While flavors of sour or black cherry and mineral notes such as flint and graphite join to create a delicate, yet noticeably, lengthy finish. Most cellaring websites indicated “Drink now through 2013” – which would likely mean drink now ;-) Although, with this wines expansive tannins and lively acidity, you could probably let it sit for another couple of years. This wine is smooth and easy-drinking -- well suited for drinking on its own but will also pairs well with an assortment of dishes. The couple we shared this lovely bottle of wine with served these delish pesto pinwheels. http://www.busyinbrooklyn.com/pesto-pinwheels/

Thirty Bench Riesling 2013

A classically styled off-dry Riesling; crisp, fresh, vibrant and tangy. The nose is boosted by a hint of petrol, lemon zest, yellow plum and spice, shows some pear and a mineral tone. It's light to mid-weight, with a trace of sweetness to balance the acidity. The palate is very pleasant with lime zest, grapefruit, honey, mineral as well as fresh fruit notes. Brilliant length and tension with a lingering taste of lime and grapefruit. A great food wine to match with fresh greens and wide range mild cheeses and seafood dishes. Another steal!

Beautiful nose of wild berries, licorice, and crushed rose petals. Wonderfully rich & ripe with flavors that don’t overwhelm. Full-bodied, but balanced and delicious. With layered flavors of blackberries, ripe black cherries and blueberries, some plum and with the slightest touch of smoky pepper and creamy oak, creating balance with notes of acidity and tannins. Rich ruby-red color. Finishes with a long, lush velvety mouthfeel. We aerated the wine because we noticed a little sediment, so the wine was served at room temperature. Since Zinfandel leans on the sweeter side of red wine, we decided to pair it with our dinner of “Sweet and Spicy Shrimp with Rice Noodles”, can be found at CookingLight [http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/sweet-spicy-shrimp] Although not the greatest of pairings was still enjoyable.

Prestige Trockenbeerenauslese

This Austrian dessert wine, made in the classic botrytis-style, is lustrous old gold or amber in color. It has distinct and marvelous aromas of honey, ripe pears, golden delicious apples and apricots complete with hints of burnt brown sugar and candied orange. Sweet, medium-full bodied, fresh and smooth in the mouth while still being rich and complex on the palate. The scrumptious flavors in this dessert wine are absolutely mouth-watering, sweet baked apple, dried peaches, apricots, honey, golden raisin compote with toasted almonds. The creamy finish is rich and mouth-coating with decent acidity and hints of marmalade, toasted almonds and perfect flinty mineral accents. You could sip this wine on its own or pair with a cheese plate, especially blue cheese or dessert (we had a delish cheesecake with chocolate drizzle.) This wine is a steal.

A rich mahogany coloured spirit. The makers used a combination of Sherry wines and botanicals to create this lively vermouth with superb aromas of orange peel, coriander seeds and a slight trace of fragrant old roses. Followed by that are aromas of mature red fruits, cinnamon, herbs, smoke, coffee, rum & raisin ice-cream, butterscotch and sweet dates. On the palate, it is silky, velvety, flavourful and well-balanced. It is a little on the sweet side with excellent flavours of orange peel again, hints of plums & red grape juice, nutty flavours, aromatic coffee, smoky notes. This spirit has a bitter, lingering, complex finish of orange peel and stewed raisins. Serve it with your favorite nuts, cured meats, aged cheeses & sourdough bread (or any other fermented bread). [Tasted April/2017]
