Casal Garcia

Aveleda Casal Garcia 2015

Douro D.O.C., Portugal

Cora scored this wine: 85/100

Dark plum color. The nose is very soft and slightly musty. Fairly smooth palate, lots of red fruit flavor, raspberries, cherries, black currant, blackberry, hints of plum, with of soft floral and spice touches. This wine is dryer with nicely integrated tannins and acid. Satisfying and medium finish of ripe raspberry and currant. This Douro is a smooth, light, fruity, spicy and easy drinking wine. Pair with spice-crusted roasted lamb. [Tasted May/2017]

A classic and a fine Sancerre, with aromas of green apple, citrus fruit, and mild herbs. The body is light/medium and is missing depth and intensity. The palate offers a lovely concentration of tart green apple and tropical fruit flavors. With pleasantly firm acids and good mineral character. This wine shows a delicate and surprising medium length finish of lime, apple, and nectarines. Serve with white fish, oysters, goat’s milk cheeses and lighter foods flavored with fresh herbs. Cora scored this wine: 86/100

Dark appearance. This wine displays aromas of ripe red cherry, raspberry blackberry, currants - slightly jammy. Mild spicy and smoky notes. Not overly complicated but is a lovely expression of a juicy and fruity Merlot. This wine is well-balanced with ripe acidity and soft tannins. Very easy-drinking wine with a good, dry fruity finish. It is a perfect match for traditional tomato based meat dishes or spicy vegetarian foods. Serve chilled (serving notes recommend 17 - 18°C).

A dark ruby red and fruitier very easy drinking wine. This wine has aromas of sour dark cherry, red currant, dark berries, plums, a little jammy on the nose. Noticeable black pepper. Followed by coconut, sweet spice, and vanilla from the oak. The palate is full-bodied, with round tannins, medium acidity, smooth, dry, and well-balanced. Medium-long after tasting wine with flavors of plums, sweet spices cocoa wood, and smoke. Pair this with any cut of meat that is slow-roasted. [Tasted March/2017]

Pale, straw color wine, with aromas of passion fruit, pineapple, guava fruit, gooseberry, fresh herbs, lime, green pepper and mineral characters. Smooth texture. Juicy acidity. Lots of ripe fruit. Lively mouth-feel. Dense, dryer Marlborough Sauvignon. Medium bodied with gentle, fleshy flavors of passion fruit, ripe fruit, and herbs. A moderate-long finish of ripe tropical flavours. Excellent value. [Tasted May/2017]

Memorable Wine

Testarossa Pinot Noir [oops I can't remember the vintage.]

First Wine

A Chianti, you know the kind with the straw basket.

Unusual Wine Experience

I have a very eclectic group of friends, this usually means most of our wine experiences are unusual.

Current Fav Wine

I'm really getting into Reislings but Pinot Noir I likely my fav.
