Errázuriz Kai Carmenere 2010

Aconcagua Valley, Chile

Courtney scored this wine: 95/100

Late ripening Carmenere is harvested end of April to mid-May. This grape variety needs a lot of aging to soften the higher pyrazine level, but the winemaker intentionally leaves a small amount of greenness, as he believes it’s a characteristic of the grape. 20 months aging in small, new oak barrels to add depth. This wine is limited production. This wine is my favourite Errazuriz pick! Would make a nice splurge wine. Rich and spicy, but still bright aroma from some greenness. Very deep colour. Very rich colour starting with dried fruit, cassis and fig and black cherry, but ends with a LOT of spice: clove and cinnamon, and some dark chocolate. Still tannic and a touch green, so needs a lot more aging. Winemakers says wine will start drinking nicely in 2018, but could age much longer.

Amazing rich and complex austrian dessert wine. Honey, roasted apple, nutmeg, clove, apricot jam. Pair with vsimple vanilla ice cream, or may favorite dessert - cheese try. Pick sharp, tangy cheeses such as blue cheese, goats cheese, and aged cheddar.

A beautiful sparkling and a tragedy that it is not available in Canada. This wine has flavor and story, taking its name from the mistress and true love of the estate founder of Fontanafredda. The wine is very aromatic, and I get that pleasing tangy aroma as the wine in poured for me that makes my mouth water. The wine is rose-gold, with just the slightest hint of pink. On closer inspection, intense lime and lime zest, peach, floral (orange blossom), and tangy buttermilk. very mouthwatering. As the wine warms slightly and the Fontanafredda brand ambassador talks excitedly about the history of the winery, a little bit more earthiness comes through with a hint of mushroom and well-aged brie. This wine is 70% pinot noir and 30% chardonnay, with a surprise - a hint of the '67 Barolo has been added with the dosage to add a pleasant complexity. Pairs with: In true good sparkling fashion, this wine has the both the body and acidity to pair with nearly anything. Great as an appetizer wine, pairs will with creamy and aged cheeses, pickled vegetables, pate, and anything fatty and salty.

WOW! Rich and complex. Cocoa, mint, dark cherry-fig-blackberry, eucalyptus, pepper and grippy tannin, caramel. Expensive but delivers - just disappointed its not in my everyday budget. Would make a fantastic gift for a wine lover.

Beautiful wine at a fantastic price, I will definitely be keeping my eye out for this release in vintages March 17, 2018 (in my calendar!). This wine is a mix of dark, seductive Nebbiolo and fresh juice Barbera grape with great results. Light-medium body, loaded with juicy blackberry raspberry, and strawberry, spicy cinnamon and cardamom, mint and milk chocolate accented with floral violet notes, but balanced with a pleasant mouthwatering acidity. Pairing: Pair this with a charcuterie board with tangy, nutty aged cheeses and salty cured meats, or with the hearty tomato-y vegetables in ratatouille.
