Ilya and Nadia Senchuk are the brains and passion behind Leaning Post Wines. It started with a dream to take unique, interesting single vineyard blocks in Niagara and turn them into distinctive, terroir-driven wines. Nadia and Ilya first met in their hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba where a passion for each other, for life and for wine was born.

Over 13 vintages in Niagara and New Zealand, Ilya honed his craft as a winemaker, first as winemaker at Daniel Lenko Estate Winery in Beamsville, Ontario for eight years, a vintage at Te Kairanga wines in Martinborough, New Zealand, and most recently as winemaker at The Foreign Affair Winery in Vineland, Ontario.

Nadia comes from the financial industry, having worked as a commercial account manager for two of Canada’s biggest banks, and now works as a financial controller for a local manufacturing company.

Heading up quality control is their sons, Yuri and Ruslan who have become the focus of their lives (other than wine).

The name Leaning Post represents the essence of their project. Just as grapes can’t grow on their own, they need the support of posts and wires, Nadia and Ilya have had to rely on the support of family and friends to make their virtual dream a reality. Leaning Post began as a virtual winery and now has transitioned into a bricks and mortar (barn board and hand fashioned nails) winery located at 1491 Highway 8, in Winona, Ontario.

Just as grapes need to lean on posts and wires to grow, we know that Leaning Post Wines would not be possible without leaning on our family and friends to help make it happen.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
