Summery and refreshing! Aromas of lime, orange zest and field strawberry. Light bodied, with crisp acidity, and bright citrus and berry on the palate. Enjoy with fresh seafood or summer salads.

Surely this wine, Fteri 2018, could be a descendant of the ancient Phocaeans' rosés, the ancient Greeks who invented rosé? This wine blends two Greek varietals - 25% Moschofilero ( white ) and 75% Agiorgitiko (red). The grapes spring to life from the ancient Peloponnese terroir, found in the southern Greek peninsula that joins Greece by the Isthmus of Corinth.

Giving a beautiful pale orangey-salmon colour, the nose has musk and floral notes, especially roses, with a whisper of lemon. On the palate, this wine is dry, medium-bodied, and gives ripe peach, juicy blood orange, apricot, and strawberry, with a note of ruby grapefruit and a subtle spice.

True, it's great to drink "international" grape varieties, but surely the wine world would be infinitely poorer if we didn't have the chance to look at, and immerse our snozzles + taste buds in the oceans of wines made from indigenous varietals grown all over the world. In all the debates about sustainability, organic, vs biodynamic viticulture, it's valuable to remember that as consumers, by buying these wines, we do help ensure that people continue to make wines using indigenous grapes. We're also often supporting small farms and supporting localized plant diversity. What's not to like?

Troupis Winery recommends chilling to 10 degrees Centigrade. Pairs gloriously with Greek cuisine (of course!) and salads. Also, despite not being "wine-dark," pairs gloriously with reading Odysseus' journey as he travels the Mediterranean in search of home, in Homer's The Odyssey.

Indeed, if the Greeks hadn't brought their rosé wine and its technology to France, would there be any French rosé wines at all?

Troupis Fteri 2018 is a Agiorgitiko Moschofilero Rosé from the Peloponnese IGP wine region. Lovely balance of bright red berry fruit, strawberry fruit, acidity and depth on this zesty rosé. Perfect for calamari. - Community Wine Reviews
