Splendid! Rich apricot, clementine unfolds on the palate enveloped by layers of ripe peach goodness. Supremely great dessert wine! Hungary's Tokaji region is renowned for making the "king of wines" - the sweet wine Tokaji Aszù. The more “Puttonyos,” which range from 3 to 6, the sweeter the wine. This lovely dessert elixir finishes with apricot preserves, pear, and clementine. The acidity and moderate sweetness makes it very balanced and suitable for nuts, cheeses and fruit-based desserts.

Tokaji Aszu food pairings: foie gras, blue-veined cheeses, crème brûlée.

Reviews and Ratings

Philippe Perreault - Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

This dessert wine is mainly made of Furmint.
Deep golden color with notes of ripe peach, honeydew, white flower, honey and orange peel.

Pair it with an orange sorbet.
Serve it at 8-10 degrees.
Enjoyable now but can still be aged 10-15 years.
Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Ripe peaches, mandarin orange, candied ginger root, with a hint of slight minerality. Well balanced, juicy rich densely concentrated fruit. Full bodied and luscious. Pair with slightly sweet deserts, with stone fruit or apple. Tasted Dec 2016 - rated 91/100. Great value.
Tokaji Aszù is sweet. The number of Puttonyos - the unit given to mark the sugar level of this sweet dessert wine made from concentrated grapes affected by botrytis cinerea (better known as botrytised) or noble rot grapes (know as Aszú) marks the sweetness and richness of the Tokaji wine. The shriveled and concentrated grapes are individually harvested in tries and were once collected in 20-litre (55-pound) wooden tubs called puttonyos or hods. The best examples of this luscious dessert wine show apricot, peach preserve flavours, some citrus and a zingy acidity to match. Pair with blue cheese. - Community Wine Reviews
