From the Niagara Peninsula wine region, Featherstone Black Sheep (2017) is a great value mouth watering Riesling under $20. Featherstone's Black Sheep Riesling is one of the best Niagara Rieslings. Vintage after vintage, the Riesling is consistent citrus and flinty, lemon blossom and lime zest. Fresh and clean on the palate and a perfect pairing to fried chicken or grilled Bratwurst and Weisswurst. Featherstone's Black Sheep Riesling stands shoulder to shoulder (ear to ear) with the best of Niagara Rieslings. This is one of my favourite Niagara Rieslings: delightful every vintage. The 2017 vintage is no exception with lovely bright notes of lime blossom, lemon zest and flint. Pair with fresh seafood and vegetarian dishes. This Ontario white wine offers great refreshment in the glass.

This is Featherstone's most notorious wines (alongside their Canadian oak Chardonnay). 2017 was achallenging vintage, to say the least. The producers were fighting the elements for most of the season, bit the weather came to behave a bit better in the fall; leading to a by-the-book harvest. For Riesling and other whites that rely on acidity levels, this is key. You have to pick at the right time, or the balance will be off. Honestly, though, since they have offered the Black Sheep it has always been balanced. It is delicious on every vintage (though always a bit different).
This one has a pale lemon hue. Very subtle whote amd yellow.
Explosively attractive aromatocs of lime, lemon, honey, orchard blossom, and quince. It jumps out at you while you pour. Very invigorating.
Superb acidity and freshness. Not a tremendous sweetness to it. If I had to guess, somewhere around 15 grams per litre (making it a "1" or a dry).
Flavours of white peach, lemon zest and sweet almond. More juicy tropical fruit; guava, pineapple, limeade, quince, and some zesty minerality.
Pair with sunny weather and fresh seafood on the barbecue. It should cellar well too. At least half a decade.

Ontario Riesling is noteworthy for its excellence and Featherstone christened this one after their vineyard sheep. It has enough sugar to classify as medium sweet, but the acidity gives it so much verve it tastes off dry with soaring flavours of lime peel, lemon, wet stone, honey, and a suggestion of kerosene. It’s a joy served with a marmalade glazed ham or a veggie stir fry. 4 stars out of 5.

Featherstone's Black Sheep (2017) is a great value Riesling under $20 from the Niagara Peninsula wine region. Floral and fruity with lots of delicious ripe white-fleshed stone fruit, pear and lime zest on this clean, crisp and vibrant Riesling. Drink now and for the next five years.
