Prior to starting JM Cellars with his wife Peggy, John Bigelow worked in the technology sector. His family generally understood what he did for a living but it strayed from his desire to create a more tangible work environment that he could share with them. With the winery now a reality, both John and Peggy point to their purple-stained hands as tangible proof of John’s vision, a reality he says wouldn’t have been possible without family. He is quick to thank Peggy for her amazing enthusiasm and drive, his sons’ understanding when harvest has kept him from their soccer or football games and the hours of “sitting” logged by their grandparents. It takes more than great grapes to build a winery, it takes a family.
