2018 Don Pascual Coastal Tannat – Uruguay – 89 pts
Tannat is the one of most planted wine grapes in Uruguay. For me, the 2018 Don Pascual Coastal’s expression of this grape showcases compact aromas – think floral, herbs, earth, oak, and black berries – and juicy flavours. For me, they evoke ripe dark berries teamed up with a pleasing, light herbaceous character.

Medium bodied, this Uruguayan red feels velvety, lean and extra dry. It has food friendly elevated acidity and approachable, no need to tame with protein tannins. Enjoy.

Don Pascual Coastal Tannat 2018, Juanico, Uruguay: From Juanico in Uruguay, Don Pascual 2018 Tannat is excellent value under $15. Look for dark berry, plum, earthy herbs, smoky and spicy flavours on this vibrant full-bodied red with a lingering briny mineral finish. Pour with smoked and slow-braised red meats.
