Martin Geleynse reviewed this wine as follows:

Dark and brooding in the best, most exciting way - like a Neil Gaiman comic book. This is a really substantial wine, loaded with cassis, ripe cherry, spice, dried herbs, cigar, smoke and leather tones. Superbly structured with noticeable drying tannins that add even more muscle, and yet it retains that characterful Merlot silkiness. Really, really good. Pair this with roast beef. (Vintages panel, Feb. 2018)
Matt Steeves rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Spicy black berry, currant, and smoke. The palate is well structured with fine tannins supported by refreshing acidity and great depth of flavour. Enjoy with braised beef or grilled tenderloin with balsamic sauce. Tasted February 2018. 91 pts. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
Melanie Lloyd rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

This Merlot has dark berry aromas with notes of chocolate, cedar, and hints of autumn leaves and cinnamon.

On the palate, there are flavours of tart blackberry, plums, and cassis. It has wonderful acidity and a beautiful harmony. Lovely wine!

Natalie's Review

Rutherford Hill Merlot 2014, Napa Valley, California, United States: A robust and balanced Californian red wine made from Merlot grapes grown in the Napa Valley. Aromas of mocha, toasty oak and fleshy ripe black plums. Smoky finish. Rutherford Hill is a Teralto Family winery that uses the 18th century winemaking technique of blending in a splash of Syrah grapes for body and Cabernet Sauvignon for structure. Winemaker Marisa Taylor aged the wine for 16 months in French oak barrels. Pair with rare meats. Drink: 2018-2022. 959338 14.50% XD 750 mL  $39.95 Score: 90/100. May 15, 2019 Top Rated Red Wine.
