Impenetrable purple-red-garnet colour; the nose is subdued, baked, super-ripe but also oxidative, matched by similar on the palate. Black pepper, rubber, and scorched earth dominate. Certainly neither refined nor elegant, but a bold drop for the price. Tasted July 2017. Value Rating: *1/2
Greg Hughes rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

This one has loads of black and red fruit. It was fermented in temperature controlled roto-fermentation tanks. All this helps preserve the purity of the fruit flavours of Barossa Shiraz. It saw a moderate 12 months in French oak.
It's concentrated and pure tasting. Bold, but with very pretty aromatics that blend typical Shiraz spiciness (pepper and eucalyptus). It's by no means overoaked, but I really loved the balance of it. Remarkable, for an under $20 selection.
This producer makes some great value wines that over deliver for what you pay (usually >$25.00). They also have a Bordelais blend with Shiraz tossed in, called Shotfire Quartage. It's also pretty terrific.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
