Here's a lovely, savoury, well-balanced shiraz from Jim Barry, from the highest vineyard in the Clare Valley (up to 480m) and noticeably cooler climate in style. I like the natural balance and freshness on offer, the vibrant black fruit, and the superior length. A lovely, juicy red all in all, for current enjoyment or mid-term hold. Tasted February 2017. Value Rating: ***
Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

I love this wine, I always have. For modern Aussie Shiraz, it can't get much better, especially for the price. This wine has tons of blue and black fruit, but balanced by purple flowers, menthol and green coffee. There is a slight chocolate edge that presents itself as well. What makes it so lovely and inviting is its mouth-watering acidity. I could drink this all night (and probably will). 91 Points. (www.ottawawinejournal.com)
Gwen Barton rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Big, rich and layered Shiraz from the Clare Valley. Aromas of blackberry, mint, sweet spice and currant. Followed by flavours of chocolate, dark cherry, white pepper, raspberry and eucalyptus. Enjoyably, lasting finish. Try this with a bacon cheeseburger or pulled pork sandwich. Awesome!
Monique Sosa rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Enticing, jammy blueberry, cassis, sweet spice, vanilla, and licorice notes galore. A smooth, rich and luscious red from the cool climate Clare Valley region in South Australia. The fruit ripeness and concentration of flavours is remarkable considering the altitude of the vines. South Australia does benefit from long sunny growing seasons, however. Acidity and ripe tannins balance nicely with the ripe fruit notes. Enjoy this full-bodied red with roasted leg of lamb. Tasted Jan 17 - @sommsosa | BespokeTastings.ca
Sylvain Segard reviewed this wine as follows:

Deep ruby colour. Blackberry, leather, and spices flowers aromas. Dry, full-bodied, medium tannin levels, and medium-low juicy acidity. the black fruit and spiciness repeat in the mouth. This is a safe bet to pair with BBQ'd meats. Score 87. (S.Segard, reviewed Jan. 15, 2017).
Colin McKone rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Purple in colour with aromas of plum, blackberry, mint and black pepper. It is full bodied with high but well balanced alcohol, tannins and acidity. The fruit flavours really come through on the palate with a sligh peppery aftertaste leading into a long finish. This Shiraz will be a great addition to any BBQ.

Mint, sweet berries and pepper on the nose. This Shiraz is smooth and dry with a long leather and chocolate finish. A wine to pair with beef , lamb or game.
Jane Staples rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

From South Australia, a juicy Shiraz with a nose of ripe dark berries and subtle spice, followed by a palate giving blackberries, spice and a touch of milk chocolate. XD, well-balanced, long chocolate finish.

Natalie's Review

Jim Barry The Lodge Hill Shiraz 2013, South Australia, Australia: A top-notch shiraz with aromas of fleshy blackberry and mint. Juicy, smooth and full-bodied. Very tasty. Perfect for hamburgers, pizza and steak. The grapes for this wine are grown in vineyards at an elevation of 480 metres above sea level which imparts great elegance and balance to this full-bodied red wine. Elegance meets decadence in the glass. Drink: 2015-2019. 998476 14% XD 750 mL  $23.95 Score: 92/100. February 18, 2017 Top Rated Red Wine. Plush Pork Wine  Full Review
