Greg Hughes rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Sometimes the stories cultures share about a wine is what makes them most memorable. Mavrud has mythical status in Bulgaria. Long ago, a mercurial king forbade the cultivation of Mavrud - a grape he felt produced wine that was too tannic or bitter. On the other side of his kingdom, a cowardly man was walking through his mother's vineyard when he was set upon by a mountain lion. He killed it with his bare hands. When the king heard this, he met the man and asked what gave him such a superhuman constitution. The cowardly man said his mother's wine gave him incredible strength - it was Mavrud.
Anyways, this wine is chock full of florality and deep plummy fruit. Chocolate, and smoke, though I believe this wine never saw oak.
The flavours are deep and mouthfilling, but it needs decanting. Cocoa, plum, cherry, and bramble. The Merlot softens it a lot.
Pair it with coffee rubbed t-bones.
Mavrud is Bulgaria's answer to Malbec - thick skinned and robustly structured.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
