This is arguably the best 'Village' Chardonnay to emerge from the Le Clos portfolio to date. The Chardonnay grapes were a little less affected by the rains and benefited from a near-perfect growing season for Chardonnay. Such an expressive nose of bright, ripe fruit and subtle oak stylings. Look for poached pear, apple, and lemon cream pie on the nose to go with freshness, stony minerality and lightly toasted spices. With the oak in check, the stone fruits shine on the palate to join the subtle minerality all in near-perfect balance. Score - 92. (Rick VanSickle, winesinniagara.com, Dec. 9, 2013)

I've tasted this wine a few times now before finally getting around to writing a review - I feel that these Clos Jordanne wines are constantly shifting and evolving - living wines - that make any tasting note fossilized in time of lesser value. But for what it's worth, 2011 is shaping up to be a fine vintage for Le Clos' whites, a combination I suppose of maturing vines, and winemaker Sébastien Jacquey getting more attuned to the vagaries of Niagara and the specifics of his vineyards. Although biodynamics have been abandoned to my knowledge at the estate, there is still vibrancy and verve, energy and flesh in this Village Reserve, again in a style that's more texture than sheer weight, more savoury than fruity. Wood is a feature, even if old barrels lend mostly gentle spice flavours. What's more important is the textural refinement that comes with slow and controlled oxidation, and also lots of lees work it seems: stirring the lees to lend a creamier texture and nutty, fresh bread dough nuances. The length is very good to excellent, and this is certainly no major step down from the other "crus", so fair value to be sure. Tasted May 2014.

A very fine chardonnay with a lovely chalky, mineral texture a touch of salinity along with fine oak adding dimension and discreet flavour. Medium to full weight with good definition, plenty of verve and an impressively complex range of flavours. Quite complete. Savory, clean and linear with a great deal of evolution yet to come. Tasted June 2014.

Winemaker Sébastien Jacquey's "entry-level" Chardonnay currently resides in a bitten and certainly not shy mode. The 2011 is a Villages Reserve that is in a bit of a purgatorial place at the moment, closed down since its grand opening last summer. The rocks are speaking, as is the hubris of wood, but the fruit is up there, wafting in the proverbial wind. Let it blow and gather atmosphere, to return two or three years on, to reintegrate with the earthly elements and reform a convivial bond. Tasted June 2014.

Brilliant light straw in colour with silver undertones. The nose reveals an elegant bouquet of lime, white flowers and hazelnuts with a touch of spicy oak. More complex aromas develop of honey, star anise, fresh butter and minerality.Fresh and fruity on the palate, the wine has a rich texture balanced with good acidity and ripe citrus and stone fruits.Persistent, with oak present through to the finish.
