Reviews and Ratings

Deborah Podurgiel - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Monte Creek Ranch Winery is a family-owned, working ranch with livestock, honey bees, Haskap berry jam and as of 2009, wine grapes. The ranch has 44 acres in vines planted on two estates and in June 2016, opened a seasonal restaurant on Monte Creek Ranch. Who could ask for more than to eat delicious seasonal fare in the bright sunshine overlooking the South Thompson River and sipping wine 10 minutes outside of Kamloops? Yes, Kamloops. But, back to wine tasting.

I have sampled several at the winery, most recently, an incredibly structured Frontenac Gris. Frontenac Gris is cold-hardy, fast-growing varietal – one of three hybrid grapes created at Wisconsin’s, University of Minnesota to handle temperatures below -30 F, and at the other end, extreme heat in a semi-arid environment. It is also downy, powdery mildew and gray rot resistant. So, what does a wine made from this grape taste like?

Monte Creek’s Frontenac Gris is a brilliant, medium-amber colour (grapes are a little darker pink than a Gewurztraminer grape). At first, the nose is closed with some melon, honey and light stone fruit. But on the palate, this wine delivers! Honeydew melon, marzipan, peaches, nectarines, some minerality fill the palate in layers, met by a zingy acidity. This wine finishes very long with honeyed pear apple flavours and still lingers on with some citrus minerality. This is one excellent, well-balanced and structured wine. Pair it with a prosciutto and hard cheese plate, creamy chicken dish, spring greens with a honey, mango-peach dressing. But most of all enjoy!

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
