From the Winery:

Made in the Highfield’s celebrated Elstree style, extended maturation on yeast lees has provided some light biscuit aromas which compliment the citrus flavour of this elegant Methode Traditionelle. Naturally lively acids have mellowed during maturation process resulting in a fine, delicate mouth-feel with great balance and length.

The 2009 vintage started about ten days later than a typical year due to cooler temperatures in late summer, but was completed with clear skies. The fine and dry weather allowed all fruit to be picked at peak optimum ripeness within a time frame that was not governed by the threat of rain. With an easier and less stressful surrounding the picking decisions, nice and clean fruit was seen in the bins and very good flavours produced in the tanks.

My Tasting Notes:

I tasted the 2009 Elstree Cuvee at a New Zealand Bubbly and Chardonnay promotion. These sparkling and Chardonnay wines were chosen by an astute panel of industry experts in New Zealand to help showcase the best of the best wines for each category.

The Elstree was tasted with five other vintage and non-vintage sparkling wines. This was my favourite vintage bubbly tasted at this event. This is a classy sparkling wine filled with citrus and biscuit aromas, clean crisp lemon/citrus and minerals on the palate. There rich mouth feel was the fullest of the vintage offerings and on par with Champagnes from France. Elstree Cuvee is an excellent wine that’s great on its own or paired with creamy oysters such as Kusshi, Gorge Inlet or, Blue Point over the more briny and crunchy oysters such as Kunimoto or, Effingham.
