Produced by Tenuta dell'Ornellaia, this is the magnum size (1500 ml) of Le Volte dell'Ornellaia 2019, a medium-plus-bodied Super Tuscan red wine blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese grapes. Fragrant with ripe red berry, blackberry, plum and baking spice aromas, juicy on the palate with ripe dark plum, earthy florals, dried wild herb and sweet spice flavours. Tannins are rich and fine. Each varietal is fermented separately in small, stainless-steel tanks then blended and aged in cement tanks and Ornellaia barrels. Drink or hold.

Food pairings: prime rib, New York strip loin barbecued ribs in rich gravy.

Reviews and Ratings

Jay Denney rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Fantastic value. Imagine a Venn diagram with one circle for right bank Bordeaux, and once circle for Chianti Gran Riserva. This wine falls right into the overlap. The best of both those worlds. Smooth tannins, berries and cassis a plenty.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
