Message In A Bottle

Il Palagio Message In A Bottle 2016

Tuscany I.G.T., Italy

Jay scored this wine: 90/100

I wish there was more of this to be found! This comes from Sting's il Palagio property in Toscana. 70% Sangiovese, 15% Syrah, and 15% Merlot. Full bodied and lush with blackberries, morello cherries, slightly burnt toast and smoked herbs.

Ogier Rosé 2017

Cotes Du Ventoux, Rhone, France

For $12.55, you are getting more than you paid for with this one. Slightly atypical in that I picked up little to no red fruit or berries, rather it was citrus that dominates.

Besini Tsinandali Dry White 2018

Kakheti, Georgia

Jay scored this wine: 88/100

If, like me, you enjoying discovering varietals you've never heard of, then give this crisp, delicious white a try. Made from Rkatsiteli and Kakhuri Mtsvane (I know, seems more like an eye exam chart than wine, right?), this offering delivers notes of ripe stone fruit, honeydew, Granny Smiths and citrus. Pairings: bring on the Souvlaki!

Clean, simple chardonnay, with citrus and apple notes and a touch of burnt honey. Good value.

Imagine a less sweet and liquidy version of strawberry-rhubarb pie. Cheap and cheerful!

Memorable Wine

Many to choose from, for different reasons. Top 5 (in no real order), 1995 Krug Clos du Mesnil, 2001 Amon-Ra, 2005 Rollingdale Pinot Gris Icewine, 1990 Vega Sicilia, 1995 Moulin Touchais

First Wine

When I was 17, my cousin gave me a taste of '92 Beringer Private Reserve Chardonnay, and '85 Batasiolo Barolo. Both were revelations.

Unusual Wine Experience

Picking icewine grapes in the middle of the night in -15 weather.

Current Fav Wine

Reds from the Barossa and Langhorne Creek regions still own my wine heart.
