Reviews and Ratings

Deborah Podurgiel WSET IV Candidate - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

The wonderful thing about Canadian wines is that we are seeing more and different varieties than ever before. Go back about 10 years and you would be hard-pressed to find wine grapes out of the ordinary, certainly, the Grüner Vetliner wine grape, although at home in Austria, would have been rare if not impossible to find in Canada let alone British Columbia. But, John Ness, proprietor of Pipe’ Dreams Winery had a big dream. Located just below Macintyre Bluff in Oliver BC, a small 3.41-acre estate vineyard was planted in 2011 with Grüner Veltliner, along with Kerner, Gamay Noir and Zweigelt wine grapes and this is where John realized his dream. In September of 2015, John harvested wine grapes for his Grüner of the same vintage. That year, the Oliver wine region was blessed with 1,699 growing degree days producing ripe and quality Grüner grapes. Grapes were de-stemmed and cool-fermented in stainless steel tanks. No doubt about it, this wine is zesty! On the nose, it is clean, crisp with celery notes and white pepper. On the palate, it is dry, elegant, balanced with fresh acidity, light green herbs and medium-long citrus finish. It really is easy to enjoy on its own, but a perfect food pairing that we had with the wine was smoked salmon, torpedo shrimp and crab cake canapés with mango chutney. The 2015 vintage was awarded Silver at the All Canadian Wine Championships 2015.

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
