Natalie's Score: 91/100

A towering Italian red wine of great depth, nuance, layering and complexity. This is marine at its best produced by a master. Aromas of black raspberry, kirsch, blackberry liqueur and tar with black spice and a deep core of concentrated pleasure. This is not for the faint of palate. Full-bodied and mouth-filling. Demands hearty meat dishes. This wine is made using the traditional Appassimento method of drying the grapes before fermentation to add more body, colour and depth to the wine. Decant 2 hours. Great cellar candidate.

Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico food pairings: roast beef, cheesy pizza, stuffed roasted turkey, pasta in tomato sauce.

Reviews and Ratings

Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 94/100 with the following review:

Deep rich dark colour, with currants, chocolate, mocha, and rich dark fruit on the nose and palate. Rich in every way, but perfectly balanced making this a fantastic premium Amarone to enjoy now and for many years down the road. Enjoy 2016-2036. Tasted November 2016. 94 points. Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 94/100 with the following review:

Rich, robust and glorious! Spice (clove and anise), blackberries, plums, leather, and cedar dominate the nose. The palate is satiny smooth with developing tannins and clean deeply complex and concentrated flavours that reflect the aromas with lasting minty notes. This wine shows outstanding balance, fruit concentration, ageability and typicity. This premium wine is a worthy cellar candidate and an amazing gifting wine for avid collector. Enjoy this holiday with a prime rib roast. Tasted Nov 2016 - @sommsosa | bespoketastings.ca
Mazi's Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico (2011) demands hearty dishes -- preferably a palette of rich lasagna to satisfy its raspberry, kirsch liqueur and savoury herb palate. Grapes for this wine were sourced from Mazzano vineyard, well-known for producing blockbuster Amarones. Drink now or cellar for five years. - Community Wine Reviews
