Spectacular value for this robust Spanish red wine. If you love Californian Zinfandel, try this. Fleshy ripe black and purple plums and blueberries on the nose and palate of this smooth, full-bodied Spanish red wine. Pair with barbecued sweet ribs. This Spanish red wine is made from 100% Monastrell grapes grown on low bush vines planted in poor limestone soils. There are low yields due to these impoverished soils and extreme weather. Polished tannins. The Spanish winery of Juan Gil was established in 1916 in the region of Jumilla, known for its red wines made from the Monastrell grape, which is called Mourvèdre in France.

Monastrell food pairings: breaded veal chops, cheesy pizza, barbequed ribs.

100% Monastrell from Jumilla, Spain. Deep ruby colour with an intricate bouquet. Plum, cherry, tree bark, earth, dry leaves, forest, cocoa, dark chocolate, prune and char grilled peppers. On the palate flavours of roasted cherries, pepper and tobacco. A small touch of cigar box. Medium plus acidity and tannins with medium body and finish. Quite flavourful and an excellent QPR. Pair with paella and leg of lamb. 89 points tasted November 2017

Honoro Vera (2016) is a great value 100% Monastrell from the Jumilla wine region in Spain. The Spanish winery of Juan Gil was established in 1916 in the region of Jumilla, known for its red wines made from the Monastrell grape (Mourvèdre). Vines thrive in dry, poor soils in the limestone vineyards increasing aromatics and flavour intensity of the wine. Look for rips almost jammy black and blueberry fruits, sagey herb flavours on the palate. Pair with grilled meats. - Community Wine Reviews
