From the Fitou, Midi wine region, Gérard Bertrand An 990 is a lively, fruity, spicy Grenache and Carignan red wine blend and a fantastic value at $18. The year 990 on the label refers to the historical citadel of Fitou that once marked the boundary between the kingdoms of France and Aragon. Look for vibrant red berry, cherry, strawberry, wild herbs, and spicy flavours in this dry, medium-bodied, and velvety red wine blend with carbonic maceration. The wine matured for up to one year in French oak barrels. Pair it with grilled lamb chops or a rich ratatouille.

Grenache Carignan food pairings: grilled pork chops, rack of BBQ ribs, veal Porterhouse, grilled lamb, lentil dishes.

Reviews and Ratings

Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Bright and vibrant, this is a lovely blend of Grenache and Carignan from the historial Fitou, Midi region. Aromas of red cherry, strawberry, and raspberry, with hints of spices. Medium bodied, dry, with drying tannins, and vibrant, bold berries, this wine is bright and fresh but still with a nice amount of body and tons of flavour. Enjoy with any mushroom dishes.
