From Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España, Cune Crianza 2020 is a superb value, vegan-friendly Rioja red well-priced at $17. This dry, medium-bodied blend of 85% Tempranillo and 15% Grenache and Mazuelo offers vibrant notes of blueberry, blackberry, and sweet dried tobacco, complemented by hints of leather and warm baking spices, finishing with a touch of butterscotch. The tannins are smooth and velvety, making it an approachable choice to enjoy now through 2026. Pair it with grilled chorizo or a roasted vegetable paella.

Food pairings: marinated lamb ribs on the grill, souvlaki, spanakopita pie.

Reviews and Ratings

Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Great value Rioja made from mostly Tempranillo (85%), with remaining Grenache and Mazuelo (also known as Carignan). Aromas of blackberry and blueberry, with hints of cigar box, leather and spices. Full bodied with dry tannins, rich dark berry notes and more sweet spicy hints on the palate. Enjoy with marinated beef kebabs.
