Reviews and Ratings

Deborah Podurgiel WSET IV Candidate - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

I am totally excited about this non-vintage and inaugural brut bubble from Bartier Bros. Produced from 100% Chardonnay, deliciously dry (5.2 g/l res. sugar), medium-bodied and complex with pronounced aromas of fresh meadow mushroom, bready, ripe stone fruit, toasty and flinty notes that waft out of the glass. Look for ripe apple, pear, peach, flinty mineral notes on a persistent and fine mousse crisp with medium-plus acidity and long on the finish. I have to say, I am glad I do not have more on hand (but not for long) ;). Bartier Bros. are famous for their savvy, elegant and top-notch wines, this inaugural bubble is right in step. Not an easy one to find, order it direct from the winery. The winery suggests a food pairing of "buttered popcorn with truffle salt, truffle chips" or "Manchego, and Comte" cheeses and they could not be more spot on with that pairing. Tasted July 2023.

The Chardonnay grapes for this delightful B.C. sparkler was hand-harvested and whole cluster pressed to low yields. The wine juice was fermented at 16-18 C with a cultured yeast and spent four months in stainless-steel tank followed by 12 months in bottle, on lees, en tirage. No dosage was added. "Initial vintage 2019, with portions of this vintage and subsequent vintages held back for blending to keep continuity of style from vintage to vintage."

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
