The 2014 vintage of the Alceno Premium is made mostly from Syrah grapes with 15% Monastrell grapes. The vines are planted in stony, calcareous soils. Robust with lots of layers of dark black fruit from oak aging, smoke, spice and anise flavours. Good price: needs grilled meats.

Syrah food pairings: spice-braised lamb, cheddar, grilled pork chops, Muscovy duck.

Reviews and Ratings

Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Juicy black fruit and allspice aromas with cassis black plum, clove and anise flavours. A rich, full-bodied Spanish Syrah with layers complexity and smooth clean finish. Tannins are still young and grippy balanced with a moderate (medium+) acidity. Enjoy with winter beef and barley soup. Tasted Sep 2017 by @sommsosa | bespoketastngs.ca
Rachelle O'Connor rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Tart cherry, raspberry, blackberry, spice and oak on the nose and palate. A well crafted wine with lovely layers of fruit, notable tannins and pleasant finish. Great with grilled veggie burgers topped with aged cheddar and crispy kale.
Johnny Glick rated this wine as 85/100
For Alceño Premium 50 Barricas (2014) The winemaker chooses the Syrah wine juice from among 50 barrels to make the final blend which is then matured in French and American barriques for 6 months. Deep ruby, almost purple in the glass, this is rich, ripe dark fruit wine with smoke and spice from oak ageing. Great price. - Community Wine Reviews
