Deborah Podurgiel WSET IV Candidate rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Hester Creek Estate Winery's Character Red is made to be approachable on its release, but I really like what they've done with the 2022 Character Red. Very approachable now for sure, with shoulders and a body to match.

Character Red 2022 is a medium-plus-bodied, almost full-bodied, red wine blend of Petit Verdot, Malbec, Syrah and Merlot rich with aromas of dark cherry, ripe dark berries, plum, wild sagey herbs, earthy, flinty, savoury and subtly spicy flavours, mouth-filling and so easy to love. Tannins are velvety and the wine is balanced with fresh acidity that can take on burgers, ribs or even a juicy pork roast. Very nicely done. Tasted December 2023.

Natalie's Review

Hester Creek Estate Winery Character Red 2022, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, BC V.Q.A., Canada: The Character Red from Hester Creek in the South Okanagan is a rich blend that whispers cedar and blackberry, with a velvety finish that lingers like a good campfire story. The estate was founded in 1968 by Italian pioneer Joe Busnardo who brought vine cuttings back from Italy in his suitcase. Today, they’re a full wine destination, with a villa hotel, restaurant, and cooking classes. This red is divine with President’s Choice Blue Menu Smoked Gouda—smoky, savoury, and smooth. Think barbecue ribs or grilled veggie skewers by the lake while ignoring your inbox. Drink: 2023-2027. 46452 13.20% D 750 mL  $32.95 Score: 95/100. October 14, 2023 Best Value Red Wine. Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
