The Grand Dame of Bordeaux-style reds in the Okanagan Valley, always elegant, powerful and generous. Love the ripe, spiced dark plum, cocoa, dark berry and soft vanilla aromas on this vintage. Dry, medium-plus-bodied, silky and mouth-filling, the 62.5% Merlot, 12.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11.8% Petit Verdot, 7.7% Cabernet Franc and 5.5% Malbec red wine blend glides over the mid-palate, smooth and rounded with dark cherry, dark berry, fresh mushroom, savoury herb, sweet spice and smoky vanilla flavours. Tannins are fine and pleasantly grippy. The wine is very approachable now, but could easily cellar to 2024. Decant one hour prior to pouring with a prime rib, hard cheeses or good quality (80%) dark chocolate. Tasted October 2020.
Daniel O'Keefe rated this wine as
91/100 with the following review:
Merlot dominated with Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec in support. Bright and ripe red fruit notes of cherry and red currant over oak spice, cinnamon, and clove. Accessible now thanks to a large Merlot content, but like every Grand Vin, it is built to last. Pairs well with red meats and patience. Perhaps softer and more complex come 2024-2026.

A full-bodied blend from the Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, of the typical Bordeaux grapes- 62.5% Merlot, 12.5% Caberent Sauvignon, 11.8% Petit Verdot, 7.7% Cabernet Franc and 5.5% Malbec- to be precise! Big aromas of blackcurrent and blueberry with hints of vanilla from the oak aging. High acidity and tannins with a smooth finish. This wine can be aged from several more years- for the cellar! Tasted February 2020.

My first taste of this Canadian icon from BC. A blend of 62% Merlot, 12.5% cab, 11.8% Petit Verdot, 7.7% Cab Franc, 5.5% Malbec. It’s a joint venture between what was previously Constellation and the Tailan group in France that owns 2nd growth Gruaud Larose in St Julien, Bordeaux. Pedigree indeed. I loved this wine and will be stocking my cellar. It’s high class and loaded with classic cassis and blackberry. Tannins are present but ripe and integrated. Serve with seared beef tenderloin with bone marrow and red wine sauce. @wrightwineblog

Osoyoos Larose Le Grand Vin 2016, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia V.Q.A., Canada: Le Grand Vin 2016 is a balanced, harmonious and full-bodied Bordeaux-style blend of 58% Merlot, 26% Cabernet sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and 7% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet in the glass with dark berry, spicy and earthy aromas on the nose. A dry, full-bodied beauty, layered with dark cherry, blueberry, dark plum, savoury herbs, spicy and toasty oak flavours on the palate. Incredibly powerful. Decant two hours prior to pouring with a bacon-wrapped filet mignon. Tannins are fine and grippy. Can easily cellar for another 10 years.
